Passionate about preserving food at home? Interested in serving your local community in a meaningful way? Consider the Master Food Preserver Program at Orleans County Cornell Cooperative Extension!

Orleans County CCE is offering a free Master Food Preserver Training March 18- April 6, 2025 on Tuesday and Thursday evenings 6-8pm and Sunday afternoons 12-4pm. The MFP Training is a “Train the Trainer” course, the first step in becoming a Master Food Preserver Volunteer. Following the core home food preservation training, participants log and document 40 hours of diverse food preservation experience (usually done on personal time using information learned in the training), complete long-term volunteer paperwork including background check, and then receive certification to extend research-based food preservation education to the community as a CCE Master Food Preserver Volunteer.

The training will teach participants the science behind all food preservation techniques, highlight the methods that give the safest and highest quality products, and offer hands-on activities for participants to gain experience and skills in various forms of food preservation.

If interested, fill out the intake application and return to the office by February 21st.  Applications can be dropped off or mailed to Orleans County Master Food Preservers, 12690 State Rt 31, Albion, NY, or emailed to MFP Coordinator Katie Oakes at klo54@cornell.edu.  Participants will be notified if they are accepted into the program by March 1st.
